Three tales, three eras, three countries and the same talent: Michel Ocelot, 78, has a good eye and always the same desire to tell stories for young and old. Adults who, for some, grew up with him and who now go to the cinema with their children.

“Kirikou’s children have grown up and come to thank me, and it’s extremely moving, strikingconfirms Michel Ocelot. I tell myself that if I have touched people to this extent, I must continue!

In this trilogy, there is ancient Egypt, Auvergne in the Middle Ages and an 18th century Turkish palace. Three different settings but the same theme: young people in love with freedom and love, smarter than adults.

Universal stories conveyed by this inimitable, simple and precise design, which required thousands of hours of work from two animation studios in Belgium and Lorraine, and significant documentation work. “For Egypt, I worked with the Louvre, the great Egyptologist Vincent Rondeau. More exact, it is not possible! For Auvergne, I almost did a ‘normal’ Middle Ages and quite Suddenly I had an idea that I would describe as brilliant: to go to Auvergne twice, in the fall and in the spring. And for the third tale, I allowed myself some fantasies: it’s a turkey, something pretty without trying to do anything right.”

“It is part of the delights of my profession, documentation.”
