The Petit Film Bricolé Festival, when fans follow in the footsteps of Michel Gondry and his Swedish films

The 3rd edition of the Petit Film Bricolé Festival took place on September 23 in Saintes in Charente-Maritime. An event that puts the spotlight on “Swedish” films, where amateurs recreate mythical scenes from films or series with the means at hand.

Biannual festival, The Little DIY Movie of Saintes (Charente-Maritime) is supported by a group of friendss of the film “Sweden”. A term mysterious for those who haven’t seen the film French-American by Michel Gondry, Be nicerewind! Released in 2008, it told the story of Mike, manager of a video store, who sees all the video K7s he rents accidentally erased by the electrogantism of his friend Jerry. To replace them, they decide to realise with the means at hand remakes of films. The two friends claim that the K7s come from Sweden to justify their delay insupply. Hence the term “Swedish film”, which is therefore a remake of a film cobbled together in a very artisanal way.

A new creative concept

This film launched a real fashion and the idea of ​​this festival which wants to remain in L’spirit of the concept: doing things seriously without taking yourself seriously and with a meager budget. He There was none for the first edition in 2019!

A competition and real prizes

Since then, the festival has been popular. The proof: 25 films in competition for this 2023 edition compared to 13 in 2021. Because there is a real competition with no less than seven prizes awarded, one per theme: summary, trailer, cult scene, TV credits, best Swedish effects , best acting and the audience award.

Among the works presented this year, tributes to the series The All Risks Agency And THE Flames of love (credits which have marked millions of viewers!) but also Back to the Future, Jumanji, RRRrrrr!!!, Rambo, Harry Potter... Tributes because the goal here is not to parody the films. On the contrary, participants must respect as faithfully as possible the story, dialogues, music and plans of the cult scene that they have chosen to reproduce.

The decorations and accessories must be made fromeveryday objects and available materials. An economy of means intended to boost the creativity and inventiveness of amateur directors. All over a maximum duration of 7 minutes.

At the time of writing this article, the winners, revealed on Saturday September 23 by a jury chaired by Laurie Bordesoules, have not yet been communicated… But the public and the organizers have already set a date for the next festival, in 2025. Grab your boxes and pieces of string!
