Daniel Craig takes on the features of world-renowned private detective Benoit Blanc in the film Glass Onion: A story at loggerheads from Rian Johnson, the director behind the first – and popular – film At loggerheadsreleased in 2019.
An ingenious millionaire invites his motley crew of friends to spend a weekend on his private island in Greece to compete in a sophisticated version of the game Murders and Mysteries. A game that will turn, as we can easily guess, into a real tragedy: one (or more) murders to be solved.
This is the premise of the film Glass Onion: A story at loggerheadsthe sequel to the adventures of detective Benoit Blanc, who we saw in 2019 in the first successful film At loggerheads.
Endearing Detective White
It’s hard not to fall for this good-natured but incredibly intelligent detective played by Daniel Craig. The 54-year-old actor from the United Kingdom manages to make us forget his attractive and almost invincible James Bond in a tasty way. No more expensive suits, seduction, British accent and superhuman strength: the White detective is reserved, attentive and rather uses false naivety to achieve his ends.
We also love this gang of stereotypical but comical characters, made up of a muscular influencer (Dave Bautista) accompanied by his pretty girlfriend (Madelyn Cline), an assistant trying to manage the damage of her famous client, a a rather beige politician (Kathryn Hahn), an outdated scientist (Leslie Odom Jr.), a friend-turned-unloved of the band (Janelle Monáe) and eccentric billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton).
Glass Onion entertains, makes us laugh and makes us rack our brains in a playful way with an uncomplicated, but entertaining plot. This seems to be the recipe for success, Netflix having paid 450 million dollars to acquire the rights to this second part and the third to come.
We smile when we quickly realize that each person present has a motive for having murdered the victim (as in all good films at the key), but we still embark on this film which ticks all the boxes of the perfect feature film that we want to watch during the Holidays.
