The Pentagon denounces Beijing’s “increasingly risky” actions

(Singapore) The US Department of Defense on Sunday denounced the “increasingly risky” actions of the Chinese army in Asia, after two incidents between the forces of the two countries in recent days.


“We continue to be concerned about the People’s Liberation Army’s increasingly risky and coercive activities in the region, including in recent days,” Pentagon spokesman Brigadier General Pat Ryder said. who attends with US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin at a security conference in Singapore.

These statements come after two incidents involving US and Chinese armed forces in the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea in the past ten days.

The US Navy on Saturday accused a Chinese ship of having “dangerously” zigzagged around one of its destroyers which was sailing in the Taiwan Strait in the company of a Canadian vessel.

China did not mention the incident but accused the United States and Canada of “intentionally causing trouble in the Taiwan Strait”, over which it claims sovereign rights.

Washington also accused a Chinese fighter pilot of performing “an unwarranted aggressive maneuver” near a US reconnaissance aircraft flying over the South China Sea on May 26. Beijing accused the American plane of having “deliberately burst” into a training area in China “to carry out reconnaissance (operations).
