While the United States has provided Ukraine with support amounting to tens of billions of dollars since the start of this war,he American Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, visited Kiev on Monday, November 20, to reassure people about the sustainability of American aid. During his speech, he assured President Volodymyr Zelensky that Washington’s assistance in confronting Russia was long-term.

“The message I bring to you today, Mr. President, is that the United States is with you and will remain with you for a long time”declared Lloyd Austin, while Volodymyr Zelensky qualified this visit “very important signal” for Ukraine. The latter had not been announced for security reasons.

In the background of Lloyd Austin’s message, the voices of the Republican camp speaking out against the amounts of aid to Ukraine deployed by the Democratic administration of Joe Biden. In October, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said during an October hearing that “without our support, [le président russe Vladimir] Putin will succeed”.
