the peak of contamination seems to have passed but the wave is still rising in the hospital

The Covid-19 epidemic is no longer progressing, with even a slight drop in the rate of contamination in recent days. With 203,021 positive cases recorded in 24 hours by Public Health France on Tuesday April 5, the average for the past seven days is 136,000, after narrowly surpassing the 140,000 threshold on Friday. That beginning of decline marks a break with the clear recovery observed in March, during which contamination almost tripled. One “rebound” anticipated by the authorities: the Minister of Health Olivier Véran had mentioned three weeks ago a climax to “120,000-150,000 contaminations per day” for late March or early April.

No drops in the hospital

However, the trend remains upwards in the hospital where there are now 23,010 infected patients (i.e. 175 more than the day before), including 1,552 in critical care services. Corn the situation should improve soonthe Pasteur Institute “anticipate a plateau in the coming days” according to its updated projections Monday. “The slowdown in hospitalizations could come later” however, if the reflux of the contaminations was “shifted in time” for older people, the researchers warn.

Anyway, we should stay away from the peak of the previous wave this winter and its more than 3,900 patients in intensive care at the beginning of January.
