Monday morning, the journalist from The Press Joël-Denis Bellavance reported in an article the words of a conservative strategist who said that Minister Eric Girard was not welcome in their team.
The strategist in question went even further by saying that no CAQ minister could dream of becoming a conservative candidate. It’s a very arrogant attitude.
In politics, you should always seek to add instead of subtract.
No meeting
Those around the Conservative leader say that it was not them who remotely controlled this outing.
In fact, no meeting or discussion took place between Eric Girard and Pierre Poilievre. Also, no contact with Pierre Paul-Hus.
The Quebec lieutenant had already mentioned publicly that he did not intend to directly recruit provincial ministers, because he did not believe that it was the best way to maintain good relations with François Legault.
Mr. Paul-Hus is right.
However, matchmakers repeatedly reported to the CCP’s senior leadership that Mr. Girard was awaiting a call. Were these people mandated by the Quebec Minister of Finance? Only Mr. Girard can answer this question.
Credibility
Eric Girard undoubtedly made a mistake with his announcement about the Los Angeles Kings. But the fact remains that he is a credible person when it comes to economics.
Furthermore, he was a Conservative candidate in 2015. So, that deserves a little respect from the federal Conservatives.
Currently, Pierre Poilievre does not have a future Minister of Finance in his ranks. Between now and the next campaign, he will have to find the best person to occupy this position in a possible conservative government.
So, instead of closing doors several months before the next campaign, conservative strategists should shut up and let their boss work. Because closing the door quickly to Eric Girard would be a serious mistake.
