The Pau Section will ultimately not play in Paris, against Racing 92, this Monday. The National Rugby League has decided to postpone the match because several cases of Covid-19 were detected in the two teams. There are some at least six in the Section paloise, including two players. They are all asymptomatic and in isolation. The rest of the team was also screened.
The training sessions for the Palois are suspended and will only resume this Wednesday. The League has not yet set a new date for this postponed match.
Boxing day
The meeting was to take place in the middle of Boxing Day, an event imported from England and held between Christmas and New Years to attract many supporters and viewers. Last year, for example, a peak audience of 900,000 viewers was reached. “It’s always a time of celebration for players and fans, so it’s bound to be a disappointment and a frustration”, regrets the general manager of the Pau club, Pierre Lahore.
The Top 14 match between Toulon and Bordeaux, which was also due to take place on Monday, is also postponed for the same reasons.
