Its amount reached more than 1.6 million euros. An investigation into the support kitty for the family of the police officer indicted for intentional homicide after the death of young Nahel has been opened, announced the Paris prosecutor’s office, Wednesday July 19.

The sub-directorate of economic and financial affairs of the judicial police is in charge of the investigation. The opening of this judicial investigation follows a complaint filed by the lawyer for the family of Nahel, killed on June 27 during a roadside check in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine).

The family lawyer praises the “speed” of the prosecution

The complaint filed in particular for “organized gang fraud”, denounces in particular “fraudulent maneuvers” and “lies” of its organizer, the far-right polemicist Jean Messiha. He would have sought to “deceive” donors to raise funds, accuses the text. Anyone benefiting from the kitty, “even if she were from the policeman’s family (…) would therefore be guilty of concealment of fraud in an organized gang”still judges this complaint.

“We welcome the speed of this decision by the public prosecutor” to open an investigation, reacted Me Yassine Bouzrou, who defends the family of Nahel, with AFP.

The kitty in support of the police officer was closed by the GoFundMe platform on July 5. Indicted for intentional homicide, the police officer has been in pre-trial detention since June 29.
