A criminal investigation was opened by the Paris prosecutor’s office, after the team of presidential candidate Eric Zemmour sent SMS to French people of the Jewish faith, franceinfo learned from the Paris prosecutor’s office on Tuesday April 12.

After two complaints from two Jewish associations, the Union of Jewish Students of France (UEJF) and the association J’accuse AIPJ, this investigation was opened for “possession, storage, recording, transmission of personal data outside cases provided for by law” and “communication to a third party without authorization and misuse of the purposes of a personal data file.”
Monday, April 11, the National Commission for Computing and Liberties (Cnil) had opened an investigation after this canvassing. The CNIL stipulates that “the processing of personal data which reveals (…) religious beliefs is prohibited.”
Eric Zemmour won 7.07% of the vote in the first round of the presidential election.
