The Paris prosecutor’s office has opened a judicial investigation into suspicions of illicit financing of Marine Le Pen’s campaign during the 2022 presidential election, franceinfo learned on Tuesday July 9, confirming information from BFMTV.

This judicial investigation was opened on the charges of “loan from a legal person to a candidate during an election campaign”, “acceptance by a candidate during an election campaign of a loan from a legal person”, “misappropriation of property by persons exercising a public function”, “fraud committed to the detriment of a public person”, “forgery and use of forgery”.

This decision follows a report from the National Commission for Campaign Accounts and Political Financing (CNCCFP) received in 2023, specifies the Paris prosecutor’s office, which had previously opened a preliminary investigation, entrusted to the financial brigade. The investigations are therefore now continuing under the direction of an investigating magistrate.
