The Paris police headquarters, according to information from franceinfo this Wednesday, is considering banning the show “The Fool’s Cage” by Dieudonné and Francis Lalanne at the Zénith de Paris for the risk of disturbing public order. The show is scheduled for September 14.

In a press release published Tuesday on the site of the performance hall, the president of the Zenith, Daniel Colling, recalls that “Only the competent authorities, with which we are already in contact, could order the prohibition of the representation”. He also insists that the room “does not choose or produce shows” and “the first to contractualize the reservation of the room on a ‘D’ day is therefore the first served”.

The director of the Zénith also ensures that the producer of the show undertakes to respect the conditions of the Parisian room: not to express discriminatory, racist or xenophobic ideas and not to cause disturbances to public order.

The misunderstanding of Jewish associations

A response far from satisfactory for Samuel Lejoyeux, president of the Union of Jewish Students of France: “I find it hard to understand that on a website like that of the Zénith de France, we can qualify this show as ‘an alliance between a master of humor and a master of poetry'”he is indignant.

“Each time that Dieudonné, with multiple convictions for anti-Semitism, had the floor, it was to convey his anti-Semitic, racist and hateful ideas. And Francis Lalanne, for several months in any case, has turned into the most conspiratorial absolute.”

However, Daniel Colling specifies the Zenith, asked that it be communicated to him “presentation of the show. But “with the information in our possession to date, we have no element that would allow us to think that the latter could be legally reprehensible or questionable, in particular for incitement to hatred or disturbance of public order”.
