When they planned to leave their house in the city to move to the countryside, Caroline Bélanger and her family had a clear idea of their future home. However, there is no question of putting it together at great speed; They took all the time necessary to find each component, a bit like a puzzle whose pieces fit together perfectly.
Above all, they needed land, and above all, a setting so that the children of the troop could flourish. The couple’s heart first wavered between the surroundings of Lac-Beauport and those of Sainte-Catherine-de-la-Jacques-Cartier, north of Quebec. But it didn’t take long for these outdoor enthusiasts to find the right shoe for them.
“When we started actively searching, our choice was obvious. As soon as we arrived in Fossambault-sur-le-Lac, its “holiday camp” atmosphere completely charmed us,” says M.me Bélanger, teacher, who had the opportunity to work in this region at the start of her career. Access to cycle paths, the lake, parks, but also to a friendly community were particularly important. No doubt: it was on this wooded plot of 20,000 square feet (1,856 square meters) that their dream home would be born: a pretty white farmhouse.
Rustic chic
“From this acquisition, we began to design our dream house which was inspired by Texan residences: a new house in the modern farmhouse style (country style). Joanna Gaines [NDLR : designer à la barre de l’émission Fixer Upper] was one of our biggest inspirations from the old to the new. We knew what we wanted,” explains the owner.
Indeed, their aspirations are well defined: on the menu were an old red briquette fireplace, a long gallery surrounding the residence, a cathedral ceiling, abundant windows… without forgetting a convenient kitchen and spaces for good food, at inside and out, in order to nourish their epicurean inclinations.
All this ended up happening according to their wishes, thanks to a secret ingredient: they gave time to time, as Cervantes recommended.
Our plan was to take it easy, but choose materials that suited the chosen style. Moreover, several doors purchased in materials recovery centers were acquired two years after construction. Yes, two years without doors!
Caroline Bélanger, co-owner
The result is obvious, with walls adorned with black spruce planks, an impressive brick fireplace 25 feet (7.6 meters) high, rustic furniture, an outdoor bread oven and, of course, these charming, carefully chosen barn doors, unearthed in Quebec from the Ateliers de la Pente Douce. Forget the clean, polished side of Montreal condos: “Its imperfections give it its unique character,” confides the teacher.
Regarding the layout of the rooms, we find the common areas on the ground floor (living room, dining room, kitchen and bathroom), while three bedrooms and a bathroom are located upstairs. ‘floor. In the basement, there is access to a family room, a fourth bedroom, a laundry room and a workshop. Broker Julie Damasse also highlights an important point, because it is not so common in the sector: the building is connected to municipal services, something that those who have had to manage an artesian well or a septic tank will appreciate…
Crossroads of trails
The family not only sought a design style, but also a lifestyle, with a good compromise between social and nature. The gardens, the henhouse, the greenhouse, the proximity of Lake Saint-Joseph and the municipal beach provide the feeling of living in the countryside. As for Fernand-Lucchesi Park, a stone’s throw away, it offers a wide range of sports and leisure areas. It is also a crossroads of trails: cycling, snowmobiling, hiking and cross-country skiing, which encourage escape. Also, the owners emphasize a crucial element going beyond the land, the brick and the location: the social environment. “What is not in the property file and which cannot be explained is the exceptional neighborhood on rue Beaumont, warm people, who quickly became friends. »
You have to give time, and sometimes the time for resale presents itself. In this context, the owners intend to adopt the same philosophy as during the construction of their project, that is to say to act without there being a fire in the lake. Several visits have already taken place, but they are in no hurry. “We are proud of what it offers for our future buyers, who will undoubtedly be fans of this style,” they predict.
