73 municipalities in the Ardèche have been classified as in a state of natural disaster due to drought. All the inhabitants of the department whose house has been cracked by the drought therefore hope for a rapid reimbursement of their insurance.

For Murielle and Jean-Paul, this is good news. Their town, Ruoms (Ardèche), is recognized as a natural disaster and both hope to benefit from aid to repair their cracked house due to drought. In total, around forty victims of the municipality may be able to obtain compensation. Among the 73 places classified as a state of natural disaster in the Ardèche, Aubenas, where Catherine Blache lives, who also noticed cracks during the summer due to the drought.

An expert assigned to investigate

The resident therefore contacted her insurance in the hope of being compensated. “Let me be repaired, let the work be done so that the house is solid, so that we can live in it without fear”, she says. She has 30 days to report her loss, but nothing is won, the insurer is also conducting its investigation. An expert will see the damage and its origin. In France, according to the Court of Auditors, half of the victims are not reimbursed and when this is the case, it is sometimes necessary to wait 5 years.
