Despite the arrival of reinforcements, the CISSS de la Côte-Nord lacks staff to reopen its eight-bed overflow units at the Sept-Îles hospital and 13 beds at the Baie-Comeau hospital. The emergency rooms of these two hospital centers have “enough staff to function”, indicates the health establishment, but “the occupancy capacity of the stretchers remains very limited in the event of overflow”.
In a press release on Friday, the CISSS said it had taken steps to “improve ambulance services in the region”. “Work is also underway to improve the medical evacuation service in the Lower North Shore,” we write.
Thanks to “new resources” and the mobilization of employees and managers, the CISSS was able to avoid the closure of 40 hospital beds this week (20 in Baie-Comeau and 20 in Sept-Îles). The Forestville emergency room will also be able to remain open at night.
“The situation remains precarious throughout the territory and the CISSS de la Côte-Nord teams are mobilized to restore the various services as quickly as possible,” indicates the CISSS in its press release.
The CISSS de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue must update its service reorganization plan on Friday. In particular, he announced on Monday the closure of a 12-bed active mental health rehabilitation unit at Malartic hospital.
