The overall success rate for the March 2024 Order of Nurses of Quebec exam is 92%

The overall success rate for the examination of the Order of Nurses of Quebec (OIIQ), held in March, stands at 92%. A little more than 1,700 nurses obtained their practice permit.

Nearly 95% of candidates for the practice of the nursing profession (CEPI) graduated in Quebec passed the test on their first attempt. Among graduates outside Canada, this percentage reaches 86.9%.

During the previous exam last September, the success rate reached 69% among those taking it for the first time.

For the March test, the passing score for the exam, determined by a committee of around twenty experts (supervised by an expert in measurement and evaluation mandated by the Office des professions du Québec), was 57 %.

“Efforts to improve the processes surrounding the examination of the Order of Nurses of Quebec are continuing,” responded the office of Minister Sonia LeBel. The OIIQ collaborates with Mme [Marie] Rinfret, appointed as governance controller last November. The objective is to ensure that all qualified nurses are integrated into the network. »

The OIIQ has been under surveillance for several months due to the low success rate for its September 2022 exam, i.e. 51.4% (19.5% among graduates outside Canada). After carrying out an investigation, the commissioner for admission to professions, André Gariépy, reported in May the “flaws and [les] fragilities” of the ordeal. In October, he ordered the OIIQ to correct the problems identified in the review.

In addition to an expert in measurement and evaluation, the Office des professions du Québec has appointed a “supporter to the OIIQ” — the former Ombudsman Marie Rinfret.

More details to come.
