the other tradition of mardi gras

And suddenly, they had a good feast before the deprivations.

We had fun with what we couldn’t eat for more than a month, meat, milk, cream and eggs. Eggs forbidden and yet still laid by hens who know nothing about religion and which we will have fun decorating little by little so as not to lose them. We therefore have a feast by making pancakes or carnival donuts. For pancakes, there are as many recipes and tips as pancake fans but here is our recipe, it can be used all year round:

Our pancake recipe

what we need

300 grams of flour

3 tablespoons of sugar

2 tablespoons oil

50 grams of melted butter

60 cl of milk

3 eggs

and why not 5 cl of rum.

but you can put a little less milk and add beer to have a lighter dough.

What we do

  1. Put the flour in a bowl and make a well.
  2. Then add whole eggs, sugar, oil, butter.
  3. We mix gently by adding the milk little by little, we must obtain a liquid paste without lumps.

Then we let it rest. To pop the pancakes you need a helping hand and if you have a gold coin there, hold it in the other hand when you pop a pancake, if it falls down properly you will have money and good luck all year round (that being said, it’s usually done by candlelight in certain regions such as Lorraine). To succeed in good pancakes is like to succeed in the kitchen. It takes multiple ingredients, but it also takes heart.

Cooking is done with a lot of ingredients like pineapple, but it is mostly done with the heart.
