Still no lead is privileged in the investigation into the deadly fire in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque. The origin of the tragedy which claimed the lives of eight people has not yet been clarified.
After three consecutive days of careful sampling and finding in the rubble of the three buildings blown up by the explosion, the experts from the IRCGN (National Gendarmerie Criminal Research Institute) are continuing their work. 34 tons of rubble were extracted to be analyzed by the specialized gendarmes.
A few elements of investigation were however clarified during a press conference this Saturday, in particular on the presence of gas cylinders : “We actually found three 13-kilogram bottles of gas. These bottles were in the building on three different floors, in three different locations.“, specifies Jean-David Cavaillé, the public prosecutor of Perpignan.
Bodies of victims returned to families next week
The eight victims have been formally identified also announced the public prosecutor. He confirms that among them, there is an entire family: a couple of young parents in their twenties, their two children aged one and a half and 4 months, as well as the father of the young woman. There was also a couple aged 32 and 39, as well as a 66-year-old woman. The bodies will be returned to families early next week.
