The opposition parties united on Tuesday to ask the Legault government to mandate a public inquiry into the management of the pandemic.
The Liberal Party, the Parti Québécois and Québec solidaire have affirmed that this investigation must be added to that of the coroner on the situation in long-term care hospitals (CHSLDs) during the first wave and to that of the Commissioner of Health and Wellness, which examines the performance of the healthcare network during the COVID-19 crisis.
The member for Quebec solidaire, Vincent Marissal, suggested to his colleagues from the opposing parties to form a united front to obtain a public inquiry with a broader mandate than the steps currently underway.
“There are two, three flashlights who walk in the room, that will not be enough to shed all the light, ”he said in a press briefing with his colleagues.
Liberal leader Dominique Anglade said the government has faced conflicting information in recent weeks. New information has emerged from a report by the Ombudsperson, which notably contradicted the government’s testimony before coroner Géhane Kamel.
“There has been a series of contradictions which show us that we are not telling the whole truth, that we do not want to obtain all this information,” said Ms. Anglade.
