I experienced some frustration while watching the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games presented by Radio-Canada.
The first channel bombarded us with advertisements during this magnificent ceremony, which I would have liked to see in its entirety without distraction! The most disturbing: advertisements presented side by side with the live broadcast… it was chaotic and particularly disappointing. Was there no way for our public broadcaster to review its advertising strategy at least for this unique moment?
Although I respect the work of Mr. Martin Labrosse and have great admiration for that of Mr.me Céline Galipeau, the lack of information on the various performances also bothered me. Apart from the mention of famous artists like Lady Gaga, Céline Dion or Aya Nakamura, I would have really appreciated it if we could specify, for example, the names of the choreographers of the magnificent dance performances, the title of the work performed on the piano by the young pianist Alexandre Kantorow (I searched the Internet to find out the name of the artist, the composer and the title of the work…) or the name of the artist playing the phantom rider. Is this a problem related to the work of the researchers?
This ceremony demonstrated to us the cultural strength of this country and, in my opinion, Radio-Canada did not provide exemplary coverage of this spectacular opening.
