A prolific director will open the ball on the Croisette. The Second Act, a comedy by Quentin Dupieux with Léa Seydoux, Vincent Lindon, Louis Garrel and Raphaël Quenard, will open the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 14, the Festival announced on Wednesday April 3. This 1h16 film, scheduled out of competition, will be released simultaneously in French cinemas.

At 49, Quentin Dupieux has established himself as one of the French references in absurd humor, with 13 feature films in 17 years. Also a figure in electro music under the pseudonym Mr. Oizo, for three years he has been able to broaden his audience with works like Incredible but true, Yannick And Daaaaaali! His universe attracts more and more stars, from Jean Dujardin to Alain Chabat, Benoît Poelvoorde, Adèle Exarchopoulos and Léa Drucker.

The Cannes Film Festival, to be held from Tuesday May 14 to Saturday May 25, must announce its official selection on April 11. Among the most anticipated films, and which could be selected, a mega-project by Francis Ford Coppola with Adam Driver and Forest Whitaker, Megalopolis ; adaptation of the book Limonov by Emmanuel Carrère by the Russian Kirill Serebrennikov; or a musical comedy by Frenchman Jacques Audiard in the world of drug trafficking in Mexico.

The Festival chose the American Greta Gerwig, director of barbie, one of the biggest blockbusters of last year, to chair the jury. The latter will designate the film which will succeed the 2023 Palme d’Or, Anatomy of a fall by Frenchwoman Justine Triet. Cannes had already announced the programming of a first film, out of competition: Furiosa, taken from the post-apocalyptic saga Mad Max by Georges Miller. The mistress of the opening and closing ceremonies will be actress Camille Cottin.
