On Wednesday, August 28, the Place de la Concorde in Paris will host the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games. The dancers will be accompanied by music composed for the occasion, and conceived as a representation of the hazards of the life of a para-athlete.
At the foot of the Concorde obelisk in Paris, we spot the first secret of the upcoming opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games. On the largest square in Paris, 150 dancers are preparing in chorus to open the ball. They will do so to music born from a drum beat, on Wednesday, August 28. “With bodies, movement and rhythm in the spotlight, I thought that the drums could be a real instrument, a real starting point.”explains Victor Le Masne, musical director of the ceremonies.
The theme will be radically different from the one he had thought of for the Olympic Games. It will be punctuated by the breaths and trials of the para-athletes. “They are heroes, and then the next day, they are in a more difficult situation in everyday things. I think that in music, there was something to tell with that, with ups and downs.”he says, he who wanted to avoid “make stupidly festive music”The ceremony will combine able-bodied and disabled artists.
