The Concorde obelisk at the center of the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games? The Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Cojo) indicated, Thursday, June 23, that it was working on the project to plan the event on this emblematic Parisian square, already host to the Olympic events in urban sports (skateboarding, breakdance , BMX, 3×3 basketball).
The proposal was issued during an executive meeting of the committee and will be presented to the next board meeting on July 12. Argument put forward by the Cojo, the Place de la Concorde can accommodate approximately “30,000 spectators”. The opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games would therefore be held outside the stadium, just like that of the Olympic Games, planned on the Seine.
Asked about the feasibility of the project after the incidents at the Stade de France which raised fears in the police community, the interministerial delegate to the Olympics, Michel Cadot, recently explained that working groups (town hall, police headquarters, and Ile-de-France prefecture of France) must “restore a waypoint” in view of a “validation end of August-beginning of September” and the “get approved by the end of 2022”, he pointed out.
Conversely, the two closing ceremonies “would take place at the Stade de France”, said the Cojo in a press release.
