the Omicron variant less dangerous than the Delta variant?

The Omicron variant of Covid-19 is spreading more and more around the world. Two British studies claim that it is less dangerous than the Delta variant. People infected with this variant “are less likely to be hospitalized compared to the Delta variant: 20% less according to the first study, 68% according to the second study”, indicates the journalist of France Télévisions, Maëlys Septembre, in duplex from London (United Kingdom) Thursday, December 23 in the 12/13 of France 3.

These studies show that people hospitalized after contamination with the Omicron variant would have “half the risk of being hospitalized for several days”. The journalist recalls that for the moment it is only “first conclusions because the panel of cases remains limited and then, they still have to be validated by other scientists”. The variant could still “overwhelm hospitals because of its very high transmission rate”, reminds Maëlys September.
