Weighing 30 tonnes and 29 meters wide, the Olympic rings were suspended high on the Eiffel Tower on Friday June 7.
48 days before the start of the Paris Games, the Olympic rings were suspended 70 meters high on the Eiffel Tower on Friday June 7. Tourists are fascinated by the sight of the rings. The operation to install them took place overnight. With their 29 meters wide and 13 meters high, the Olympic rings, which weigh 30 tonnes, were fixed by rope access technicians suspended in the air.
The Olympic emblem, which represents the five continents, is a must-have in editions of the Games. In 2016, they were installed on Copacabana beach in Rio (Brazil), then on Tower Bridge in London (United Kingdom) in 2012 or even on Tokyo Bay (Japan) in 2021. These rings cannot be used without authorization. They belong to the IOC, the International Olympic Committee. “It’s an extremely strong brand, perhaps the most well-known brand in the world”explains Romain Voillemot, legal director of Paris 2024.
