The Olympic flame will ascend the steps of the Cannes Film Festival on May 21, carried by French Paralympic athlete Arnaud Assoumani, organizers announced Monday May 13. “Paris 2024, in agreement with the Cannes town hall, offers the flame to the festival on its red carpet”, informed in a press release the organizers of the festival, which opens Tuesday and will end on May 25. The Olympic flame will then return to Cannes on June 18, as part of its tour of France organized before the competition takes place in Paris.

On May 21, the film will also be screened in the evening Olympics! The France of the Games, a documentary by Mickaël Gamrasni. According to the president of the festival and its general delegate, Iris Knobloch and Thierry Frémaux, it must trace “a century of participation in the Olympic Games, which have forever marked our collective memory”.
