(franceinfo)
The Olympic flame was lit on Tuesday April 16, 2024, 101 days before the opening of the Paris 2024 Games. Laure Manaudou, Olympic champion, was the first French torchbearer to carry the flame.
The Olympic flame for the Paris 2024 Games was lit on Tuesday April 16, around 11:15 a.m. French time, on the ancient site of Olympia in Greece, where the first Olympic Games in Antiquity took place. The ceremony took place in the presence of the president of the Paris 2024 Games, Tony Estanguet, and the president of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, who insisted on the message of“hope” carried by the Olympic flame, a symbol of peace in Antiquity.
The flame transmitted to France on April 26
Greek Olympic rowing champion Stéfanos Doúskos passed the flame to former swimmer Laure Manaudou, crowned Olympic champion in the 400-meter freestyle at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004, and the first French torchbearer. The flame will be officially handed over to the organizers of Paris 2024 on April 26, after 11 days of relay across Greece.
