The collapse of the press continues in Lebanon. The oldest English-language daily in the country, The Daily Star, laid off all its staff, employees announced, Tuesday, November 2. In February 2020, the Daily Star had already suspended its print edition due to financial difficulties and, as of October 13, its website was no longer updated.
The benchmark daily had already drastically reduced its staff in recent years and journalists complained of unpaid salaries. Employees of Daily Star were warned that their dismissal was effective from October 31, in a e-mail that AFP was able to consult.

Several media have disappeared and those that remain are struggling to survive. This situation accentuated the decline of the press, which had started long before, with the drying up of funding for Arab regimes.
