The former Guebwiller station, sold from Leboncoin by the town hall in 2018, will be transformed into a Mecca for Italian gastronomy.
The work will be completed this summer. The Antica Stazone, the old railway station in Italian, will open its doors on Friday, August 26, 2022.
Keep “the station spirit”
This building of more than 400 square meters, dates from 1870, with a ground floor of more than 300 square meters and an upper floor, with 100 square meters. At the first level there will be a restaurant, a tea room, a wine cellar and an Italian grocery store.
The spirit of the station will remain impregnated: _”I immersed myself in the documentation of the past. We will give the station the color of the time, the taupe brown on the facade. We are going to decorate the interior with old objects, like suitcases, or even a large clock and a mailbox,”_explains Cathy Colombo, one of the project leaders.
Mecca of Italian gastronomy
The new owners have invested 2.3 million euros.
“You can come and eat fresh pasta and real Italian ice cream. For the past two years, we have been looking for small producers who are in the slow food spirit. It is the spirit of respect for animals, maintaining traditions. All the products presented will be selected and validated by us,” continues Cathy Colombo.
17 people will be hired on permanent contracts.
