In order to encourage the expulsion of people subject to obligations to leave French territory, the Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, wants to increase the number of foreigners placed in administrative detention centres. But he risks encountering several obstacles.
The new Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, says he is ready to use all means at his disposal to maintain his firm line on the issue of immigration. His main project is the application of the obligations to leave French territory (OQTF). In a week, the minister will bring together a dozen prefects, those of the departments where he says he sees the most migratory disorder.
To encourage expulsions, the ministry wants to increase the number of foreigners placed in administrative detention centers. 1,300 additional beds are planned, but the unions highlight a first problem: the lack of staff. Another difficulty: the complexity of the procedures. Finally, France has been faced for several years with the refusal of certain countries to welcome their expelled nationals.
