More than half of nuclear reactors are currently shut down in France, including several for corrosion. A return to normal is hoped for by the end of winter, explains the Minister Delegate for Industry on franceinfo.
“EDF’s objective and the government’s wish is to reopen the thirty-two closed reactors by February“, said Monday, September 5 on franceinfo the Minister Delegate for Industry Roland Lescure. Currently, 32 reactors are shut down in France out of the 56 in the country, some of them for stress corrosion and others for usual maintenance.
“The objective is also to have 27 reactors open by the end of December“, he adds, in comparison with the 24 reactors that are operational today.”The idea is to review all these reactors, to fix what needs to be fixed. When they are open they will be reopened“, continues Roland Lescure. “EDF is doing everything to ensure that all power plants are operating this winter“.
“We are monitoring the situation as closely as possible with weekly updates and we are particularly vigilant that this schedule is kept.“, declared on Friday September 2 the Minister of Energy Transition, Agnès Pannier-Runacher.
