The Toulouse University Hospital emergency waiting room was deserted on Monday June 13, while the nursing staff is silent put on strike for 24 hours.

Faced with the emergency crisis, the staff is demanding more resources and more staff. A worrying situation to which the unions have been alerting “for months” as Pauline Salingue, CGT secretary CHSCT CHU Toulouse, reminds us: “The management does not hear anything so indeed the staff at the end and worried about the health of the Toulouse population have decided to start this mobilization”. The hospital management activated the White Plan in order to refer patients to clinics in the city. Only severe cases are supported.

Purpan Hospital’s emergency room receives 700 patients a day, all departments combined. While a strike was already observed last week, caregivers like Maeva Janer say they are worried about the risk of no longer being able to fulfill their mission: “An emergency room should never be overcrowded”, she says. An emergency situation that seems alarming, while a heat wave is expected in the coming days in the pink city.
