A 12% increase. Last July, 354 people died on the roads of France, against 316 in July 2021, according to figures communicated Friday August 19 by the Ministry of the Interior. This assessment is also up by 8% (+26 killed) compared to July 2019, the reference year before the health crisis.
With 44 killed, pedestrian mortality increased in July 2022 compared to July 2021 (+10 killed) and July 2019 (+3 killed). As for cyclists, 29 of them died on the roads in July, four more than in July 2021, and seven more than in 2019. The mortality of motorized two-wheeler users increased in July 2022 with 98 killed, compared to 85 in July 2021 and 92 in July 2019.
The other road accident indicators are down compared to July 2021 and July 2019. Thus, the number of injury accidents recorded by the police stood at 4,745 in July 2022, compared to 5,093 in July 2021 (-7%) and 5,287 in July 2019 (-10%).
