The month of March 2024 was a dark month on the roads of France. Deaths increased by 31% compared to March 2023.
The month of March was particularly mournful on metropolitan roads. 254 people died in March 2024, compared to 194 in March 2023, an increase of 31%. Motorists are the most affected: 120 of them died on the roads, followed by users of motorized two-wheelers, 60 of whom lost their lives.
1,164 serious injuries recorded
This increase in fatal accidents most often occurs on roads located outside urban areas and affects all ages. But the youngest remain the most vulnerable, with 23 deaths of young people aged 18 to 24 in March 2024. 37 pedestrians were also killed in accidents. 1,164 serious injuries were also recorded, a figure up 10% compared to the previous year.
