From March 16 to 18, a congress on extraterrestrials was held in Limoges, in Haute-Vienne. An illustration of sectarian abuses which worry the government, which wants to strengthen legislation while the number of reports increases.

An unusual event. From March 16 to 18, the Zénith de Limoges (Haute-Vienne) hosted a conference on extraterrestrials. In total, 3,000 people participated in this convention, suspected of sectarian abuse. The phenomenon worries the authorities. And for good reason: according to the interministerial mission for vigilance and the fight against sectarian aberrations (MIVILUDES), the number of reports increased by a third in 2021 compared to 2020.

A “hold” on the victims

For victim support associations, the phenomenon is part of a “grip” on individuals. “They will gradually lose their critical thinking and their free will”, deplores the president of the national support center against sectarian influence (CAFFES). The government has seized this social fact. Last February, the National Assembly voted on first reading a bill which aims to strengthen sanctions against sectarian movements.
