The number of unemployed people in category A, that is to say without activity, was almost stable in the first quarter throughout France (excluding Mayotte), with a very slight drop of 0.1%, according to figures published Thursday April 25 by Dares, the statistics department of the Ministry of Labor. This stability of unemployment comes after two quarters of consecutive increase, with 0.6% increase in the summer of 2023 and 0.2% in the fourth quarter of 2023. Over one year, the number of unemployed increased by 0.1% in the first quarter and the total number of job seekers, including reduced activity, by 0.6%. In the first quarter, the share of job seekers without activity or in reduced activity (categories A, B and C) registered for more than a year with France Travail increased very slightly, by 0.2 points.

In France, unemployment among young people under 25 continued to increase, although less quickly than in the fourth quarter of 2023. It increased by 0.5% over the quarter and 5.3% over one year. . On the other hand, that of those aged 50 and over fell by 0.5% over the quarter, and by 1.8% over one year.
