In Rennes (Ille-et-Vilaine), studios available for rental are rare. “We don’t even have time to visit most of the time”, explains Camille Marchand, rental candidate. Rennes is the French city in which the number of homes available for rental has fallen the most in one year. Energy sieves prohibited for rental
For Flora Capet, of the Century 21 Rennes real estate agency, the market is blocked. Renters are unable to buy due to high interest rates and are staying in their homes longer. “We have notices that are cancelled, people who wanted to leave their rental to buy, but the bank refused the financing”, she explains. Apartments for rent are becoming rarer, because the constraints weighing on owners are increasingly heavy. In the city, 71% of housing in the old center would be classified E, F or G. Without work, they will be prohibited for rental in less than ten years.
