In recent days, there has been a slight increase in the number of Covid-19 cases after a month and a half of decline. The reasons ? At a time the relaxation of sanitary measures and the progression of sub-variants of Omicron.
Until April 1, there was a downward trend in the incidence rate. As a reminder, the incidence rate is the number of people who tested positive relative to the size of the population. However, in recent days, there has been a slight increase. On June 2, the incidence rate was 233.4 per 100,000 inhabitants. Sunday June 5, there were also 20,542 new cases, or 25% more over the last seven days.
The reasons for this increase? First of all, the end of health restrictions leads to a relaxation of the French in the face of barrier gestures. Then, the progression of the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants. If they are still a minority in France, they have increased considerably in recent days. For Véronique Hangten, pediatrician in Île-de-France, “the hospital will not be able to take a re-increase in hospitalizations due to Covid-19”. And to continue: “Hope lies in immunity”.
