The number of Covid-19 contaminations is on the rise again, with a 33% increase in one week, according to Public Health France. There are approximately 17,000 cases of contamination per day on average.

Between Sunday September 11 and Monday September 12, 4,579 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in France. A figure down from the previous day (16,422) but up compared to Monday, September 5 (3,443). The incidence rate increased further. It is 178.2 cases per 100,000 population, compared to 173 on Sunday.

The number of tests carried out has also been increasing for the past two weeks. The incidence rate is on the rise, especially in children under 10 years of age. This increase began shortly before the start of the school year and increased with the return to school. One of the explanations is that barrier gestures may have been somewhat forgotten by everyone during the holidays, favoring contamination.

Omicron BA5, the variant currently in circulation, is highly contagious. It is less dangerous than the previous ones, yet 13,183 patients are still hospitalized because of Covid-19, including 725 in critical care. Since March 2020, the Covid-19 epidemic has killed 125,407 people in hospitals.
