The number of anti-Semitic acts jumped in 2023, according to the latest CRIF report published Wednesday January 24. They have even increased by 1,000% since the Hamas attack in Israel on October 7.
Calls for murder, desecrated Jewish steles, Stars of David tagged on buildings, or even threatening letters sent to MP Jérôme Guedj: anti-Semitic acts are exploding in France. Worried, the Jewish community is increasing its caution. 1,676 anti-Semitic acts were recorded in 2023, compared to 436 in 2022, according to the latest CRIF report published on Wednesday January 24. Since the Hamas attack in Israel on October 7, they have even jumped 1,000%.
At school, prejudices fueled by social networks
It is particularly at school that violence and prejudice are increasing. “We are really dealing with classic anti-Semitism about Jews who control the world and who have money, including a level of prejudice increased by social networks”, explains Samuel Lejoyeux, president of the Union of Jewish Students of France. Several associations are calling for the perpetrators of anti-Semitic acts to be systematically condemned. They risk up to five years of imprisonment and a fine of 75,000 euros.
