Change of direction for the Lyon festival, but no philosophy, with a program as eclectic as ever. Ticket office opening on March 13.

A breakdance creation by Mourad Merzouki a few days before the entry of the discipline into the Olympic Games, concerts by Zaho de Sagazan or classics like PJ Harvey and Nile Rodgers, must perpetuate in 2024 “the diversity” of the Nuits de Fourvière under a new direction.

From May 30 to July 25, the festival will offer 60 concerts and theater, dance and circus shows, including 14 original creations, on the emblematic Roman sites of Fourvière and the Odéon, as well as other sites in the metropolis. Lyonnaise.

Faithful to the identity of the festival, but with something new

This edition, the first after 20 years under the direction of dancer and choreographer Dominique Delorme, intends to remain faithful to “the diversity of forms and cultures“who forged the modern identity of the festival,” Emmanuelle Durand, new co-director of the festival, declared to the press, all the same promising some “novelties“.

Mourad Merzouki’s latest creation, Beausejourwill conclude the festival with three performances on the eve of the inauguration of the Paris Olympics, featuring “aging bodies with disguised performers“, whose relationship to dance he questions, according to Vincent Anglade, who completes the duo of directors.

The music scene is not to be outdone with a concert for the first time in six years in France by the Australian pop-folk duo Angus & Julia Stone. The Parisian electro duo Justice will also be there, after eight years of absence. Their new album Hyperdramahighly anticipated in France and the United States, is due out at the end of April.

Main novelty, the creation of a “festival within the festival“, explained Emmanuelle Durand: “Saturday Nights”. Every Saturday, a thematic stage will be set up, dedicated to hip hop “battles”, funk and soul (Dabeull, Vaudou Game…) and on the French stage (L’Impératrice or Clara Ysé…).
