After their initial defeat against New Zealand (1-0), and despite several clear chances, the Scandinavians came up against a defensively united Swiss team (0-0) on Tuesday

The Norwegians acted as favorites in this group A. They are however about to relive the nightmare of Euro 2022, where the Gresshoppene were eliminated in the first round. During the second day of the group stages of the 2023 World Cup, the players of Hege Riise only managed to bring back one point from their opposition against Switzerland (0-0), Tuesday July 25, in Hamilton (New Zealand). A disappointing result which follows an inaugural defeat against the All Whites New Zealand (1-0).

It all started badly for the Scandinavians, with the exit of Ada Hegerberg, replaced just before kick-off. The absence of the Ballon d’Or 2018 did not prevent the Nordics from being more pressing than their opponents, but without success, the fault of an excellent Gaëlle Thalmann. This lack of realism and the rescues of the Swiss goalkeeper now force Norway to win against surprising Philippines on the last day, under penalty of remaining at the gates of the knockout stages. At the top of group A, the Swiss will have only one point to take against the New Zealanders to climb to the next round.
