The North is placed on orange “waves-submersion” vigilance by Météo-France, Friday November 24. It will start at 8 p.m. “A low pressure system is positioned over the Baltic Sea”alerts the forecaster. “Associated North to North-West winds” will strengthen during the day over the North Sea, generating “strong waves” which will reach the coast of the southern North Sea “in the evening”, continues Météo-France. High seas are expected in Dunkirk at 10:45 p.m., with a coefficient of 77.

“Marine flooding can cause severe and rapid flooding of coastlines, ports and river mouths”explains Météo-France. “The breaking of waves results in a movement of water masses propagating on the foreshore (area covered and uncovered by the tide)”continues the organization, emphasizing that piers, dikes and other coastal infrastructure can then be “crossed, weakened or damaged”.
