the north of the country plagued by hundreds of fires

Like a lava flow, the blaze spread to the gates of a city. Since March 31, fires of a rare intensity for the period have been consuming Asturias, sometimes arriving a few meters from homes and desperate inhabitants. “They let us burn here, we waited all night, no one came (…) we had to send our location to the fire brigade”says a woman.

A criminal act?

The emergency services are overwhelmed by a hundred simultaneous fires. The blaze was fanned by high winds and extreme drought. Some fires were brought under control in the afternoon of April 1 thanks to milder weather. Environmental associations accuse the breeders because according to them, the law favors the installation of cattle on the burned areas. The president of the region speaks of a criminal act.
