The night Laurier Gaudreault woke up | Xavier Dolan’s series presented at the Sundance festival

Xavier Dolan’s miniseries The night Laurier Gaudreault woke up will have its international premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

The work, broadcast in Quebec on Club Illico, will be presented out of competition. This first series of Dolan thus carves out a place alongside the documentary series Willie Nelson and Familyabout the rock legend, and Poachingdirected by Richie Mehta.

Some sixty short films, representing 23 countries and selected from nearly 11,000 applications, will also be on view.

Sundance, America’s leading independent film festival, screens feature films, documentaries and shorts each year in both competitive and out-of-competition categories. The event is also a platform for series produced by “new talents”. The night Laurier Gaudreault woke up (The Night Logan Woke Upin English) is part of a selection of four series presented in 2023.

Adapted from the eponymous play by Michel Marc Bouchard, Xavier Dolan’s series stars Anne Dorval, Julie Le Breton, Patrick Hivon and Éric Bruneau. The plot focuses on the trauma experienced by the three main characters one evening in 1991 and the consequences of the event 30 years later.

The Sundance Film Festival will take place from January 19 to 29, in person and online.
