Nathalie Godard, director of action within the NGO Amnesty International, expressed concern on Tuesday October 10 on franceinfo about the possible commission of “war crimes” by Israel in the Gaza Strip, after the announcement of a “complete seat” of the enclave by the Israeli Defense Minister. “What we fear is that the population in Gaza, 2.2 million people, 60% of whom are under the age of 18, and who are trapped in this tiny enclave, will come under fire and indiscriminate bombing”explains Nathalie Godard.

She considers that this would constitute “effectively war crimes”as “the announcement of the total siege of the Gaza Strip, which is starving this population”. Nathalie Godard adds that in the past, her NGO has already been able to document “possible war crimes” committed by Israel against civilians.

The director of action at Amnesty International also recognizes that the actions of Hamas, the attacks and the hostage-taking, constitute “extremely serious war crimes”. “However, in no case can this justify a response of the magnitude that Israel is announcing to us,” would like to highlight Nathalie Godard.

Nathalie Godard deplores the lack of reaction from the international community: “We would like the international community, Israel’s allied countries, to really alert people to the fact that we cannot indiscriminately bomb a population after having starved it and deprived it of water.”
