The fifth Seaska college will see the light of day in Senpere-Saint Pée sur Nivelle. For several months, the ikastola federation has actively sought land in the south of Labourd where its numbers continue to increase, particularly in Saint Pée, Sare or Ascain. The new establishment is necessary given that the colleges of Ciboure and Cambo are already saturated. The town hall of Saint Pée has just proposed a plot of 10,000 square meters, near the lake, along the departmental road that goes to Souraïde. For the mayor of Saint Pée, Dominique Idiart, the place is very convenient for receiving 200 students, a gymnasium and public transport. “We had already helped the ikastola in the village by making the day center available to it. The social demand being very present, we must now support this new project in favor of the promotion of Basque” underlines Idiart.
The municipality of Saint Pée must therefore adapt its local urban plan. The vote will take place before the end of the year “specifies the mayor. The project has barely started, in collaboration with other institutions such as the department, in charge of colleges. Seaska wishes to inaugurate this fifth college at the start of the 2023 school year.
Matxin Irabola College?
What will the name of the new school be? Some senpertar have proposed that the new college be named after Matxin Irabola, one of the greatest bertsulari in the Basque Country, a native of Senpere-Saint Pée sur Nivelle. By giving their names to the trinquet and the municipal performance hall, the municipality has already paid tribute to pilotari Gantxiki and bertsulari Larreko. After the Xalbador colleges in Cambo, Piarres Larzabal in Ciboure, Manex Erdozaintzi Etxart in Larceveau and Estitxu Robles Arangiz in Bayonne, Matxin could also continue to shine among the speakers of tomorrow.
