The Bernard Laporte estate is becoming clearer. It was via a press release on Friday March 17 that the French rugby ethics and professional conduct committee announced the terms and dates of future elections within the national body. Less than two months after the resignation of the former coach, following his conviction for corruption, the French Rugby Federation (FFR) has therefore decided to formalize its future deadlines, without specifying the “technical methods of organization”.

To be able to proceed with the election of the new leader, it will first be necessary to replace numerically on the steering committee the 11 who resigned during the winter. The latter have indeed slammed the door, unhappy with the interim appointment of a new president, Alexandre Martinez, rather than setting up new elections as soon as possible. Candidates for a position on the steering committee have until April 24 to submit their application. The 11 new members will be announced on May 26.

Two and a half months to prepare for the World Cup

Thereafter, the members of the steering committee will have until May 31 to declare themselves candidates. The result of the ballot will be announced on June 14, three days before the Top 14 final, which should mark the first official appearance of the new president. A first event as an appetizer, the Top 14 being managed by the National Rugby League, before turning fully to the major projects of the World Cup in France, the kick-off of which will take place on September 8 . The opportunity, too, to get French rugby out of “the crisis”.
