The left never stops tearing itself apart. While they are aiming to arrive together on Friday, August 23 at the Élysée Palace to meet Emmanuel Macron, the parties of the New Popular Front have found themselves with several subjects of discord in recent hours.
A few days before the meeting with Emmanuel Macron, the left is struggling to form a united front. At the heart of the disagreements is the threat launched by La France Insoumise to dismiss the President of the Republic. Questioned on the evening of Monday, August 19, Lucie Castets, the NFP candidate for Matignon, dismissed the idea. “My subject is not impeachment, it is cohabitation. The result of the legislative elections has been known for almost two months. We do not have a government, the government has resigned.”she recalled.
Despite the disagreements, the ultimatum is maintained by LFI. Manuel Bompard, its coordinator, evokes a “credible possibility”. But the Socialist Party is already distancing itself. For Olivier Faure, the head of the PS, the LFI proposal “only involves their movement”.
