The works of the future municipal stadium of Chambéry, started last spring, should be completed “end of 2022 / beginning of 2023“specifies the architect in charge of the project, the Chambérien Christian Patey. The supporters of rugby, football and American football (SOC Rugby, Chambéry Savoie Football, Les Aigles de Chambéry …) will be able to benefit from two stands, “on the north stand, which is the main one, we have 3,000 seats and opposite we have a south stand with 2,000 seats and a large plate, which was called a large plate by analogy with the tackle in rugby, which allows to accommodate approximately 1,000 to 1,500 more places, standing “ specifies the architect.
“We can reach the two stands without going through the lawn and these stands are in the English style, with no athletics track around, the first rows will be really at the edge of the field, when it is rugby we will hear the shocks.“.
Two English stands: 5,000 seats
At the moment, nearly a hundred workers are working on the shell. Much awaited by SOC Rugby in particular, this brand new stadium will be located on the site of the old stadium, between the aquatic complex and the funeral center. “This stadium is special, it is in an urban environment, in terms of town planning it had to be wedged with a shoehorn“.
“We wanted to make a stadium simple, not ostentatious, with raw materials, concrete and steel that recall the environment of this stadium” – Christian Patey.
A 450-space car park under the lawn
A parking lot will be located under the ground, under synthetic turf and will allow users of the stadium but also neighboring facilities to park. This car park, which has long been controversial, will have 450 spaces.
“Technical prowess”
“Due to its structure, this stadium is a fairly complex structure technically, with certain feats including honeycomb slabs that are sixteen meters long, majestic concrete walls that are twenty meters high, all in one piece “ explains Dominique Blachon, operations director at Eiffage Construction.
“Concrete is a difficult material to implement and we must have a very satisfactory result because it will be an emblematic structure” – Dominique Blachon
A cost of more than 20 million euros
“The cost of the works, the stadium and the parking lot, is nearly 22 million euros“specifies Christian Patey. An invoice to which must be added ancillary costs such as those of the synthetic turf or the development of the surroundings of the stadium.
